Tayo Rolls, a Tata Steel subsidiary, and a leading cast iron and steel roll manufacturer, has put up a state-of-the art integrated forging facilities for manufacture of forged rolls and engineering forging.
With the inauguration of the facilities on Thursday by Tata Steel managing director H M Nerurkar at a function held at the company?s works here, Tayo Rolls has thus become the only company in the world to manufacture both cast and forged rolls at a single location through a totally integrated facility from the blast furnace to finished rolls.
Apart from producing forged rolls, the new facilities would also enable the company to manufacturer engineering forgings to cater to the requirements of the oil & gas, power, wind mill, sugar, cement and steel sectors.
Set up at an outlay of around Rs 168 crore, funded through equity and term loans, the integrated forging facility comprises an arc furnace, ladle furnace & a vacuum degassing unit for manufacturing forging quality ingots, including round ingots.
This has been the first major investment by Tayo Rolls in plant & machinery in its over four decades? existence.
The technologies for the manufacture of forging quality ingots including round ingots, forged bars, engineering forgings and forged rolls is being provided by UK-based Sheffield Forgemasters International Limited (SFIL).
