The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) board has been reconstituted, with the government appointing seven new directors for a period of four years.

The new directors are Dipankar Gupta, sociologist, former professor, Jawaharlal Nehru University; Najeeb Jung, vice-chancellor, Jamia Millia Islamia; GM Rao, chairman, GMR Group; Ela Bhatt, founder and general secretary, the self-employed women’s association (SEWA); Indira Rajaraman, professor emeritus, National Institute of Public Finance & Policy; Anil Kakodkar, former chairman, Atomic Energy Commission; and Kiran Karnik, former chairman, Nasscom.

Four existing members continue to be on the board. They are KM Birla, chairman, Aditya Birla Group of Companies; Azim Premji, chairman, Wipro; H P Ranina, Supreme Court advocate; and Lakshmi Chand.

MM Sharma, Sanjay Labroo, Suresh Kumar Neotia, A Vaidyanathan, U . Rao and YH Malegam retired as directors of the bank.
