Glenmark and Pfizer are evaluating possibilities of setting up manufacturing facilities in Andhra Pradesh. The companies are seeking land at the Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, located at Paravada, near Visakhapatnam, to an extent of 50 acres each at the SEZ for bulk drug production.
The Pharma City is being developed by Ramky Pharma City (India) Ltd (RPCIL) through a special purpose company and is claimed as the country?s first sector-specific industrial theme park exclusively to house bulk drug, pharmaceutical and allied fine chemical manufacturing industries.
According to informed sources, Glenmark and Pfizer officials have initiated talks and are evaluating the possibilities of setting up facilities at the pharma industrial park. However, the talks still seem to be in the initial stages and are expected to be fructified very soon. This move comes after the recent announcement of Novartis setting up its centre in Hyderabad and perhaps, the first facility in South India for Glenmark. A host of other domestic pharma majors such as Orchid Chemicals, Shasun Chemicals, Biocon, GVK Bio, Dr Reddy?s, Hetero Drugs and many more are in the process of setting up full-fledged manufacturing facilities at the same SEZ. While Biocon has already taken possession of about 50 acre, Hetero Drugs has taken about 35 acre, Germany-based Pharmagel has roped in 20 acre, 50 acre by Japan-based Eisai Pharma which are all claimed to be major investors for this park. Sources said that the total investment for this park is estimated to be about Rs 10,000 crore to be achieved by 2010.
