The safety of women working in BPOs in Pune, considered to be among the safest city for women, has come under the scanner with the rape and murder of 22-year-old Jyoti Choudhry, an employee of Wipro BPO in Pune. Her body was found on Friday at Gaunje village, at Talegaon near the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. Jyoti was missing since Friday.
Two men, working with the company that was supplying vehicles to Wipro, were arrested in Pune on Saturday for this rape and murder. Police said th driver, Purushottam Borate and his friend Pradip Kokade, took here to the expressway, sexually assaulted here and killed her.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone III) Chandrashekhar Daithankar said: ?The duo raped and then strangulated her with a scarf. They smashed her head with stones and fled. The body had deep strangulation marks on neck, hand and legs. Moreover, the circumstances and clothes recovered from the scene of crime point towards sexual assault before the gruesome murder.? Pune city police have issued directives to BPO and software companies across the city, asking them to provide security to their women employees with immediate effect in the wake of this murder.
