The Trichy complex of the public sector Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has reported a record turnover for the fiscal ended March 31, 2008 to Rs 5,606 crore, up 22% over the previous year?s figure of Rs 4,606 crore. The profit before tax shot up 72% to Rs 1,496 crore as against Rs 872 crore. The Trichy plant has for the first time bagged orders from NTPC to supply 2 X 660 MW super critical boilers for the latter?s Barh stage II power project in Bihar, said RN Misra, executive director, Bhel (Trichy) complex.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, he said among the BHEL units Trichy complex tops in all parameters, including in turnover, profit and other areas. ?This performance has been by far the best in the 43-year history of the Trichy complex and this is a proud moment for us and we continue to excel in the years to come,? he added.
During the year, the complex has received highest-ever orders inflow of Rs 10,200 crore, thereby taking the overall order book size to Rs 17,400 crore, 43% over the previous year. ?In March, the complex also secured orders for supply of super critical boilers for the 2 X 660 MW Barh power project of NTPC in Orissa, considered to be a major landmark for the BHEL as a whole,? he siad.
?BHEL Trichy also bagged the 3 X 500 MW order from the Chattisgarh Electricity Board, which was originally won by a Chinese company but were failed to supply the same to the electricity board,? Misra pointed out. According to him, as much as 77% of the order from the power sector were secured through the international competitive bidding and 62% of the same were from repeat customers. ?Several customers are now opting to place orders with us,? he said proudly.
He said the company is fully geared up to meet the supply schedules of the XIth Plan orders. Supplies from Trichy complex for 11 units identified for the completion by the Commonwealth Games at New Delhi in 2010, has commenced 100% on schedule and hope to complete the same well in advance.
In addition to the supercritical boilers order from NTPC, several new product variants such as 600 MW ad 525 MW sub-critical boilders have been introduced and orders from different parties too secured during the year, he said.
