World Toilet Day 2023: On World Toilet Day which was on November 19, the former CEO of Microsoft did something unusual. Bill Gates went inside of a sewer.

He went inside a sewer to explore the history of Brussels’ underground water waste system on the occasion of World Toilet Day. He shared a video on Instagram informing the people about the rich history of Brussels.

The video’s description stated that Gates ‘explored’ the hidden history of Brussels’ sewage system “and the role of wastewater in global health—for this year‘s #WorldToiletDay”.

The text inlay in the video said, “I experienced it all at the Brussels’ underground museum.” The text also mentioned that the recorded evolution of the urban wastewater infrastructure reveals a troubling past: during the 1800s, the city’s sewage was discharged directly into the Senne River, resulting in devastating cholera outbreaks. Presently, a sophisticated 200-mile network of sewers and treatment facilities effectively manages and treats the city’s waste.

The video shows Bill Gates’ exploration of the underground system and his meetings with scientists to deepen his understanding of it.

World Toilet Day:

Each year on November 19, World Toilet Day is celebrated. In 2001, a group led by a generous person named Jack Sim from an organization called World Toilet Organisation decided this day should focus on toilets. They picked “toilet” instead of “sanitation” to make it easier for everyone to understand and talk about.

On this day, people come together to highlight how important it is to keep things clean. If sanitation and hygiene aren’t good enough, it can make many diseases spread. People talk about this problem and try to find ways to make sure everyone has access to clean and safe toilets.
