Israel-Iran Conflict Highlights: Strikes continue between Israel and Iran. Two people died in Iran’s Qom, and explosions were heard in Isfahan. In Israel, missile debris set a building on fire in Holon, deepening fears of escalation.

As many as 517 Indian nationals have returned home from Iran under Operation Sindhu till now. Speaking about the latest evacuation, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal noted that a special flight from Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, landed in New Delhi at 3:00 AM on June 21. The Indian government initiated Operation Sindhu due to the escalating Iran-Israel conflict, ensuring the safe and timely repatriation of its citizens from Iran as tensions continue to rise across the region.

Meanwhile, amid ongoing airspace restrictions due to its conflict with Israel, Iran has made an exception to facilitate India’s Operation Sindhu evacuation. According to reports, Iranian carrier Mahan Air will operate three special flights from Mashhad to New Delhi to bring back 1,000 Indian students stranded in the region over the weekend.

US President Donald Trump announced he would wait two weeks to assess the situation before deciding on direct US involvement. The White House stated that this window would give space for negotiations. Meanwhile, diplomacy between Iran and the US could restart if President Trump asks Israel to halt its strikes, an Iranian official told CNN. However, Trump said that would be “very hard” for him to do. Meanwhile, tense talks between Iran and European diplomats in Geneva showed signs of progress, though Iran refused to give up its uranium enrichment program. Trump has given two weeks before deciding on military action.

Iraq’s Kataib Hezbollah warned it would attack US military bases across the Middle East if Washington joins Israel in its campaign. White House said that Iran will be able to produce a nuclear bomb in a ‘couple of weeks’.

Why did Israel attack Iran? The attack came after tensions between Iran and the international community escalated sharply after Tehran announced the activation of a third nuclear enrichment facility. The announcement came just hours after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) issued its first formal censure against Iran in two decades, criticising its failure to meet nuclear non-proliferation commitments. However, it confirmed that no increase in radiation levels has been observed at the Natanz nuclear site, Iran’s largest uranium enrichment facility.

Netanyahu launched “Operation Rising Lion” against Iran and stated the attack was on “the heart of Iran’s ballistic missiles program”. He asserted strikes would continue “for as long as it takes to remove this threat”.

Death toll: Since the conflict began on June 13, 2025, over 657 Iranians, including 263 civilians, have been killed and more than 2,000 injured by Israeli airstrikes targeting military and nuclear sites. In Israel, at least 24 civilians have died and nearly 700 are wounded due to Iranian missile and drone strikes on cities including Haifa and Be’er Sheva. Hospitals and residential areas have been hit, deepening the humanitarian crisis on both sides.
