Hurun recently released its Global Rich List 2025 and has surpassed China to become the world’s billionaire capital for the first time in almost a decade. A similar trend was also seen in Forbes’s World’s Billionaires List for this year. The report not only revealed the names of billionaires from across the world but also crowned the hub of the three-comma club. Any guesses? Well, the US has claimed the title of the billionaire capital of the world, with 902 billionaires on the list, up from 812 last year.
Forbes reported that there are more than 3,000 billionaires in the world, with a combined net worth of $16.1 trillion. Three countries in the world dominate the billionaire landscape, with one-third of the billionaires living in the US. America is home to 902 billionaires with a record net worth of $6.8 trillion.
Elon Musk, who surpassed Frenchman Bernard Arnault of LVMH as the richest person in the world, still holds that spot with a net worth of $342 billion. The 53-year-old is the co-founder of seven companies, including Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. Second on the list is Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The Facebook founder has a net worth of $216 billion. Jeff Bezos, who founded e-commerce giant Amazon in 1994 out of his Seattle garage, ranks number three. The 61-year-old has a net worth of $215 billion.
Larry Ellison, an 80-year-old billionaire who co-founded Oracle and is its chairperson and CTO, has a net worth of $192 billion. Bernard Arnault, who was once the richest person in the world, is now in fifth place. The 76-year-old is the owner of LVMH, the luxury conglomerate that includes brands like Louis Vuitton and Sephora.
China remains the second-highest country for billionaires, with 450 on the list, whose combined wealth totals $1.7 trillion. However, China’s wealth was significantly impacted in 2024 by a property market crash and stock market downturn, wiping out nearly $400 billion.
Zhang Yiming, who co-founded the parent company of TikTok, ByteDance, became the richest person in China. This comes after ByteDance repurchased its shares, which made the company’s value rise to $312 billion. As a result, Zhang’s personal fortune increased to about $65.5 billion. This comes amid the Trump administration’s April 5 deadline to sell TikTok to an American owner or face a US ban. TikTok has a user base of one billion.
Before Yiming, Zhong Shanshan, known for his bottled water empire, was China’s wealthiest individual, with a net worth of $57.7 billion. Zhang ranks 23rd on the Forbes list.
India ranks third on the list, with 205 billionaires collectively worth $941 billion. Mukesh Ambani remains the richest person in India, with a net worth of $92.5 billion. The 67-year-old is the owner of Reliance Industries, a conglomerate spanning petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecom, retail, media, and financial services.
Gautam Adani, the second-richest person in India, has a wealth of $56.3 billion and is ranked 28th on the list. Adani, 62, is the chairman of Adani Group, which has diverse interests in ports, airports, power, and green energy.
Both Ambani and Adani saw their net worth fall by more than $20 billion as shares of their closely held conglomerates cratered. According to the Hurun India Rich List 2025, Adani has become India’s biggest wealth gainer, with his net worth surging nearly ₹1 lakh crore, marking a 13% increase, while Ambani’s net worth decreased to ₹8.6 lakh crore.
Germany is the fourth-richest country, with 171 billionaires and a combined wealth of $793 billion. Dieter Schwarz, the wealthiest German, has a net worth of $41 billion. Russia ranks fifth with 140 billionaires, collectively worth $580 billion. Vagit Alekperov is Russia’s richest person, with a net worth of $28.7 billion. Other countries in the top rankings include Canada, Italy, Hong Kong, Brazil, and the United Kingdom.
