Yeonmi Park, a defector from North Korea, has divulged disturbing revelations to the Daily Star about dictator Kim Jong Un’s “Pleasure Squad”, and the details are unsettling to say the least. According to Park, North Korean officials meticulously search for virgin girls and even visit schools to find them. They eliminate girls with family members who ran from North Korea or have relatives in South Korea and other countries. After identifying potential candidates, the girls undergo multiple medical examinations.
Park revealed that even minor imperfections, like small scars, can disqualify them. This process is reported to be very strict and thorough. While mentioning her own experience, Park said that she was considered twice for the squad but was not selected because of her family background.
The purpose of this squad is to gratify Kim Jong Un‘s desires. After rigorous testing, only a few girls from across North Korea remain, who are then sent to Pyongyang. Once chosen, these girls’ sole purpose is to please the dictator, the Daily Star reported.
According to Park, it was Kim Jong-II who came up with the concept of a ‘pleasure squad’ in the 1970s. She elaborated, saying that he believed that selecting attractive girls and getting them to please his father Kim II-Sung would make him happy. Park says that Kim Il-Sung was so touched by this gesture that he named him, Kim Jong-II, as his successor! She further explained that the kind of girls that get chosen, differ from generation to generation. Even the make-up they wear is as per the dictator’s liking.
The report further stated that once the members of the squad reach their mid-twenties, their tenure comes to an end. Some of them are often married to the leader’s bodyguards. Park mentions that it’s considered a customary privilege for retired members of the Pleasure Squad to choose a suitable spouse from among the eligible members of the security services.
While information about the pleasure squad is largely based on defector accounts and outside observations, the existence of such a group highlights the opulent lifestyle and power dynamics within North Korea‘s ruling elite. However, details about the current status and activities of the pleasure squad under Kim Jong Un’s leadership remain largely secretive.
