Tesla in India: Elon Musk’s EV revolution finally made a touchdown in India in Mumbai’s business district, Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). With prices as high as Rs 75 lakh, residents are confused whether who this move will benefit the most.

However, there will likely be a significant difference in the cost among Delhi, Gurugram and Mumbai.

Tesla price lower in Delhi-Mumbai

As per experts, the price of a Tesla in India is nearly double that in the US. The registration for the Tesla Model Y, however, is permitted only in the three cities, out of which Gurugram will be the most expensive.

Tesla’s Model Y Rear Wheel Drive will cost Rs 66,76,831 on-road for buyers in Gurugram, while the long-range variant is priced at Rs 75,61,021. These on-road prices include roughly Rs 9 lakh towards GST and road tax. As a result, Tesla’s luxury EVs end up being cheaper in cities like Delhi and Mumbai, where refined EV policies and road tax exemptions bring down costs.

Why are Tesla prices higher in Gurugram?

Gurugram lacks incentives with inclusive EV policies, which is why the prices remain significantly higher there. The reason is also attributed to road tax and charges.

While tax charges in Gurugram amount to Rs 3.3 lakh, they drop dramatically to just Rs 7,500 in Delhi and Mumbai. Chief Architect Neeta Sharada, who led the project, explained that the showroom’s design seamlessly combines sleek minimalism with understated Indian elements. The flagship space for the premium electric vehicle brand features an elegant white palette, lightboxes highlighting Tesla’s innovations, and curated Indian imagery. Impressively, the team completed this ambitious project within just 45 days.

Tesla Model Y: EMI, Downpayment, Booking Amount

If interested buyers do consider the Tesla Model Y in Delhi with an auto loan, the monthly EMI comes to Rs 1,14,088 for the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) variant, while the Long Range version carries a slightly higher EMI of Rs 1,29,184. It must be noted that these estimates are calculated based on a Rs 6,10,669 down payment, a five-year loan term, and an interest rate of 9% APR. The total on-road price for the RWD variant thus comes to Rs 61,06,690. Currently, the Model Y can be reserved by paying a booking amount of Rs 22,220, NDTV recommends.
