A recent Reddit post has shed light on the alleged layoff practices at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where an employee with over two decades of experience described being abruptly forced to resign. The post has since sparked conversations online about workplace toxicity and job security at India’s largest IT services company.
Sudden Release From Projects
In the post, the employee, who claimed to have worked at TCS for 21 years, detailed how project managers and the Resource Management Group (RMG) allegedly release employees without prior notice.
“You are working on your project tasks and all of a sudden the project manager or delivery manager calls you and informs you there is an urgent requirement in another account for your same role. She says, ‘I am releasing you from this project, you will join the other account, and RMG will call you for further details.’ In the next few minutes, you get an email from RMG that you are released, and for the customer team, the manager tells, ‘Due to some reason we had to release him,’” the employee wrote.
According to the account, employees are left to search for projects internally, but approvals for allocation are allegedly withheld by the RMG.
“Sweet Call From HR”
The employee described the next step as being summoned to HR under pressure.
“So all of sudden you get a sweet call from HR office. You: Surprised by seeing the queue infront of HR office and enters. HR : I will give you two days you need to resign otherwise we give you bad feedback. You : Tears in eyes and asks why? I have worked hard. Got A band from last 4 years and good rating. Worked very hard. HR : Smiles, informs you get 3 months salary in FNF and calls the next candidate.”
The employee claims that resignation is then immediately accepted, bypassing the 35-day rule.
Access Blocked Overnight
The post also highlights a second case where employees allegedly discover they have been released only after losing access to office systems.
“You visit the ODC as usual, but your access does not work. You call the PM, she says, ‘Yeah buddy, I just got to know you were released. Not sure if there is any other urgent requirement for your role, can you check with RMG once,’ the employee recalled.”
After a short period on the bench, the employee says the cycle repeats, ending with another HR call.
“You Get Kicked Out Just Like That”
The Redditor expressed disappointment at what they described as a lack of value for employee contributions:
“So my fellow TCSers, today is your last working day. No 35 days rule, no one cares about your project improvements, no one cares about your T factor score, no one cares about your certifications, no one cares about your project feedback. You get kicked out just like that.”
Despite the criticism, the employee ended on an emotional note: “Sorry to write this, but these days TCS has become one of the ………… Still, I love TCS because …”
