A techie-turned-entrepreneur has shared his inspiring journey of building a global D2C ice-cream brand from scratch over the past six years. Pradeep Kannan revealed that people laughed at him when he traded his Bengaluru-based high-paying job at Oracle to sell falooda, believing he had “lost it”.
‘I left Bengaluru…’: Techie shares entrepreneurial journey
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he said, “People laughed at me for leaving my job,” before sharing, “I had the perfect 9-5. I had the perfect 9-5. Operations Head at Oracle India. Good salary. Beautiful family.”
Kannan said that society considered him “settled” and apparently advised him to reconsider his decision. “But something inside me wasn’t [settled],” he admitted, and described the restlessness that pushed him towards change.
“So in 2019, I did the unthinkable. I left Bengaluru and moved back to Karur (a small town in Tamil Nadu) to sell Falooda Ice-Cream,” he shared. At the time, he added, many people thought he had completely lost his mind.
In the next few lines, Kannan said his entrepreneurial journey has taken a remarkable turn. “The Falooda Shop has 18+ outlets across India & Dubai. And now, I’m building India’s next aspirational D2C Ice Cream brand in public,” he shared proudly.
“My journey has gone from: Small town dreams → AC Offices → franchise kitchens → global shelves,” he summed up his growth trajectory in one single line, before adding that all of this is “just the beginning”.

Social media users react to his post
Many soon flocked to the comments section of his post and flooded it with congratulatory texts. Some who had already tried his brand’s ice cream promised to visit again, while others, curious to know more, asked for the brand’s name and its location in Karur, Tamil Nadu.
“Congratulations. What’s the brand called?” read one comment. Kannan responded with “The Falooda Shop”.
Another asked, “Have been there [outlets]. I would love to visit again.” Kannan told this particular social media user that the company would make falooda extra special next time they drop by.
“This is so inspiring. It takes courage to come out of your comfort zone and do something different. Happy to see success,” commented a third.
A fourth posted, “I know many people who tried like you, but very few achieved success like this. The mantra of success is a very complex equation. I hope you continue this journey and eventually become a true Karma Yogi – maybe you already are.”
