In a surprising development, the president of New York University’s College Republicans has resigned after calling Barron Trump an “oddity” on campus. The group is now urging Barron to help fill the vacancy. Barron Trump, 18, the youngest son of Donald and Melania Trump, attracted significant attention during his father’s inauguration on January 20.

Kaya Walker, who led NYU’s chapter of the College Republicans, stepped down on Monday following backlash over comments she made to Vanity Fair regarding Barron Trump. The New York Post reports that Walker’s remarks about the 18-year-old son of the president sparked national outrage.

What did Kaya Walker say about Barron Trump?

Walker, an undergraduate studying International Relations and French, described Barron as “more of the shut-in type” and labeled him “sort of like an oddity on campus,” adding that he “goes to class, he goes home.”

These comments quickly drew criticism from the national College Republicans of America (CRA) leadership, who deemed them “inappropriate” and contrary to the organization’s values.

While the CRA acknowledged that Vanity Fair had “unfairly framed” Walker’s words, they still emphasised that her remarks did not align with the group’s core principles. The NYU College Republicans accepted her resignation and distanced themselves from her statements.

Reports have suggested that Barron, a six-foot-nine teenager, is somewhat introverted at school, typically staying in his room and engaging in activities like playing video games and soccer with classmates. Though some have speculated about his social life, Donald Trump has stated that his son has yet to have a girlfriend.
