Anand Mahindra recently shared his admiration for the serene beauty of a Kerala village, calling it the “perfect escape” from the relentless pace of modern living. The Mahindra Group chairman shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showcasing the peaceful morning routines in a small South Indian village in Palakkad, highlighting its natural beauty and simplicity.

Mahindra praises simplicity and authenticity

The video, originally shared by user @iAkankshaP to depict a “South Indian Village Morning,” captures glimpses of everyday life — lush greenery, traditional homes, and villagers beginning their day. Moved by its simplicity, Mahindra wrote, “This is apparently a village in Palakkad, Kerala. Shared by @iAkankshaP to depict a ‘South Indian Village Morning.’ It’s not a tourist destination, nor is it trying to be.”

Reflecting on the deeper essence of travel, he added, “At its best, travel awakens us to moments that are authentic, experiences that endure in our memories.” Expressing a personal wish, Mahindra shared, “And today, as a #SundayWanderer, I found myself wishing I could step into this village and become a silent participant in its rhythm, simplicity, and grace. The perfect escape from the relentless pace of modern life.”

Palakkad: a gateway to Kerala’s heritage

Known as the “Gateway to Kerala,” Palakkad is renowned for its cultural richness and scenic charm. The region, historically referred to as Palghat, is surrounded by lush landscapes and traditional architecture that highlight Kerala’s deep-rooted heritage.

Palakkad Fort, built by Hyder Ali in 1766, remains one of the city’s major landmarks. The Viswanatha Swamy Temple on the Kalpathy River, famous for its annual Ratholsavam chariot festival, adds to the area’s cultural appeal. With the Bharathappuzha River flowing through its fertile plains, Palakkad thrives on agriculture, primarily rice cultivation, and offers a glimpse of Kerala’s tranquil rural life.
