Archita Phukan: An influencer from Assam, who uses the handle “babydoll_archi” on Instagram, has gone viral on social media after she shared pictures of herself with American adult star Kendra Lust. This gave rise to speculations that Archita Phukan, who has relocated to the United States, might be entering the adult entertainment industry. She also shared screenshots of news articles discussing these rumours, but chose not to directly comment on them.
Archita Phukan, who now has over a million followers on Instagram, shared that she has donated Rs 75,000 to support two causes. She contributed Rs 45,000 to an animal welfare fundraiser run by an NGO and another Rs 30,000 to a platform to help rescue children from red-light areas.
She even shared a screengrab of the public poll she conducted, where over 45,000 people participated. Per the poll, the two most selected causes were children and animal welfare. While 35 per cent chose ‘children’ and 33 per cent said ‘animal welfare’.
Babydoll_Archi’s contribution to helping children in red-light areas holds personal significance since she once paid Rs 25 lakh to break free from the dark world of prostitution. In doing so, she also helped rescue eight other women who were also stuck in prostitution.
‘Dark world of prostitution’
Nearly two years ago, Archita shared about her troubled past in a powerful Instagram post. It was geo-tagged to GB Road, the national capital’s infamous red-light area.
“The past does not define you,” Archita Phukan wrote on Instagram, before adding, “After enduring six long years trapped in the dark world of prostitution in India, I managed to break free from its clutches, despite having paid nearly 25 lakh for my supposed freedom.”
She added that she wouldn’t be able to leave behind her harrowing past if she hadn’t received the support of her “trusted friend”.
“With the unwavering support of a trusted friend and an organisation dedicated to helping survivors like me, I was able to free 8 other girls/women and give them a new life. Happiness indeed,” she wrote.
She further expressed, “Today, as I reflect upon my harrowing past, I stand tall as a survivor, proof that hope, resilience, and the power of the human spirit can triumph over even the darkest of circumstances.”
Donations in past
This, however, is not the first time that she has made donations for children. In May this year, she donated Rs 30,000 to a fundraiser for kids in red-light areas. The name of the fundraiser was “Sanjivani- mother to 70 kids rescued from red-light areas, needs help to bring more to safety and care for them”.
In 2022, she donated Rs 20,000 to protect vulnerable children of sex workers, 30 per cent of her subscription income
