Tech layoffs 2025: A senior full stack developer, who recently got laid off after nearly five years with his first company, took to Reddit to seek advice from the community on his next career move. The developer revealed that he is considering two options: taking an internal role with another team, which he describes as toxic, or exploring opportunities externally with other organizations.

“I do not wish to stay with the org, since the beginning of this year it has been quite volatile and became really stressful in terms of changes going on. I liked the project but the politics is way too much and that has become the case for other teams as well,” he wrote.

Questions About Notice Period and Internal Transfers

The developer also raised concerns about how to navigate the four-month notice period before his last day. “Are we supposed to actively work till the end date, since the project will be going to a partner company, can we start reducing our work? I don’t feel like working now, but our product managers are behaving like nothing has happened,” he explained.

He further questioned the process of internal transfers, asking, “Let’s say I get an offer with another team internally in 2-3 weeks, so will I be moved there immediately or do I have to stay till the end day here in my project till the partner org team takes over, like how do these things usually work?”

Considering External Opportunities

The Reddit user also sought advice on whether bypassing the internal transfer altogether would be a smart move. “Would it be a stupidity to not get internal role and try externally only? I am not sure of current job market for full stack developer roles at my experience but people around me are telling me to look outside only since hikes will be good and timeframe sounds decent,” he added.

The developer admitted he was unprepared for the sudden job loss and has not practiced coding interviews recently. “I was not really prepared for it mentally, it happened out of the blue. Last I have practiced DSA was almost 1.5 years back,” he shared.

He also requested recommendations from the Reddit community on organizations currently hiring for Java or React roles, where he could potentially start after 1–1.5 months of preparation. He noted that his current CTC is 20 LPA.
