A Reddit post by a former Amazon employee has highlighted frustrations with managerial practices at the e-commerce giant. The user, who worked on the same team for three years, revealed that their manager assigned a heavy load of extra projects beyond their day-to-day responsibilities, leading to stress and eventual resignation.
Extra Projects and Career Pressure
The ex-employee explained, “All these projects that they assigned as extra projects that you always need to do to get any promotion or something, he relied on so that he could standardize like other business units. It caused me so much stress so I ended up leaving finding another job.” According to the Reddit post, the extra work was not part of the formal role responsibilities but was treated as essential for career progression within the company.
Frustration With Managerial Practices
The former employee expressed strong criticism of the manager, writing, “Honestly, I feel really good screwing over this manager. The extra projects are completely useless. He actually mentioned to me during a meeting, I’m gonna change the job responsibility to be more focused on these types of projects which are like improvements to processes rather than the actual job.”
The post also reflected a broader dissatisfaction with mid-level management: “I hate these types of managers who don’t actually do anything and think that they’re big shit for using intimidation to get their employees to do work. I think all of these L7 managers should be fired because they’re all useless. They don’t know enough about the details to understand a process. They’re not a senior enough to actually influence change. But they act like they do so much for the organization.”
