Amid the tense relations between India and the United States, an artist has imagined President Donald Trump as ‘Asura’ at a Durga Puja pandal in West Bengal. A video of the artist giving final touches to the sculpture has been gaining traction on social media.

The now-viral video, shared on the Facebook page “Soumavo’s Creations. ‘A part of Art and Soul’”, opens to show the artist trimming the artificial hair with a pair of scissors. As the video goes on, the eyeballs are now painted. The video shows a Durga idol in the background.
Our response to 50% tariffs and H-1B visa
The committee spokesperson told the media that they have displayed Trump as Asura at the Khagra Crematorium Ghat Durga Puja Committee. This is in response to 50 per cent tariffs and the H-1B visa fee hike.
“This decision is in response to the 50 per cent tariff that Trump has imposed on us, and the visa policy he has implemented. Our Prime Minister considered Donald Trump a friend. Trump has betrayed him. That is why he has been shown as a demon,” a committee spokesperson told anandabazar.com.
How have people reacted to it?
The video on Facebook has received an array of responses from the people. While some believe that puja pandal should not have political influence, others found it hilarious and on point. Many even reacted with just one word, which is – “Trampasur”.
One person said, “This is not right because Pujo is not a joke.”
“According to me, it is better to show the same form in which the demon is known to everyone….,” said yet another.
A third commented, “Why is the statue better looking than the original piece?”
“At first, I was thinking Donald Trump. I later saw ‘Trampasur’,” posted yet another social media user.
