The BCCI has reportedly lodged an unofficial complaint to the ICC over the dangerous drop-in pitch at Nassau County Cricket Stadium in New York ahead of the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match.

A Dainik Jagran report says that India skipper Rohit Sharma suffered a minor injury on his hand during the practice match. This is not the first time that the New York pitch has been criticised. Earlier, in the match against Ireland, Sharma was hit on his arm and had to retire out due to the niggle.

Now, a local report by a US news outlet suggests that the ICC has resorted to some ‘desperate’ measures for the pitch at the pop-up stadium. The steps to fix the New York pitch include stuffing grass into the ‘veins’ or cracks in the pitch.

Report by The Times says that the abnormal bounce in the New York pitch is due to the ‘grassy veins’. Now, as part of the remedy, the track is being levelled after top-dressing. This would help in reducing the impact of the cracks.

“T20 inc (the organising committee) and the ICC recognise that the pitches used so far at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not played as consistently as we would have all wanted,” the ICC had said in its statement.

India has been placed in Group A along with co-hosts USA, Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada. A total of 20 teams are participating in this marquee event, divided into four groups of five teams each. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Eight stage.
