Amol Kale, the president of Mumbai Cricket Association, died of cardiac arrest on Sunday. He was in New York to watch the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match when his health suddenly deteriorated. Kale, 47, was accompanied by apex council member Suraj Samat and MCA secretary Ajinkya Naik.

In 2022, Kale was elected as the president of Mumbai Cricket Association after he defeated ex-India batter Sandeep Patil in a close contest. An Indian Express report said that Kale, who was from Nagpur, was said to be a close confidant of Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister.

During his tenure, Kale had announced the doubling the fees of domestic cricket players. He was also the man behind the decision to erect a statue of Indian sports legend ‘God of Cricket’ Sachin Tendulkar at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium.

Apart from heading MCA, the top cricket official was also one of the members of Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati Balaji Devasthan Trust. In his tenure Devasthan Trust member, Kale was instrumental in locating a suitable land for Lord Shri Venkateswara Temple at Navi Mumbai’s Ulwe.
