India skipper Rohit Sharma has announced retirement from the T20 international cricket. he confirmed the development shortly after winning the T20 World Cup 2024 after beating South Africa by seven runs. While Sharma said that he will not be part of the T20 squad anymore, the Indian skipper added that he will continue to play both in the Test and ODI formats. It should be noted that Sharma’s announcement came soon after Virat Kohli made the T20 retirement announcement during the post-match presentation ceremony.

During the post-match ceremony, Sharma said that it was time. “No better time to say goodbye,” Sharma said as he was seen getting all emotional after India’s historic second T20 World Cup victory.

The decision brings a fitting close to Rohit’s T20I career, which started and ended with World Cup victories. Over the span of 17 years, Rohit reached remarkable heights as a batter, scoring 4,231 runs in 159 matches at an average of 32.05.
