The 17th edition of the Summer Paralympics kicked off in Paris on 28 August, 2024 at 11:30 pm IST and will run until September 9. With 549 events spanning 22 sports, this year’s Games showcase a diverse array of athletic competition. India is represented by its largest Paralympic contingent ever, with 84 para athletes participating. All 549 events will be available for free live streaming in India.

India’s campaign began on August 29 in para badminton, with Krishna Nagar defending his men’s singles title. Avani Lekhara and Manish Narwal, both gold medallists from Tokyo 2020, will also compete in para shooting. Additionally, events in para archery, para cycling, para taekwondo, para swimming, and para table tennis will feature Indian athletes starting August 29.

From September 4, Parmjeet Kumar, Ashok, Sakina Khatun, and Kasthuri Rajamani will vie for India’s first para powerlifting podium since Athens 2004. Indian judokas Kapil Parmar and Kokila will make their Paralympic debuts on September 5, and the three-member para canoe team will be the final Indian athletes to compete, starting September 6.

The Games will conclude with the Closing Ceremony on September 9.

India has won 31 medals across the previous 11 editions of the Paralympics, with Tokyo 2020 being the most successful to date, as Indian athletes secured 19 medals—five gold, eight silver, and six bronze.
