In a tragic news, national car racing champion Ashwin Sundar passed away in a brutal accident on Saturday morning in Chennai. He was charred to death along with his wife Nivedhitha as their BMW rammed a roadside tree in Chennai in the early hours of Saturday. The local police confirmed that the accident took place around 3:30 am in the morning and both Ashwin and his wife lost their lives as they couldn’t open the doors and were trapped inside the car.

Since the car was in a blazing fire, the people around the spot could not go close to help the couple. The national champion was trapped inside as the explosions continued. Ashwin’s wife Nivedhitha was a doctor working at a private hospital. The police could identify the couple only with the help of the vehicle registration number. They were drving a BMW car.

Born on 27 July 1985 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Ashwin was a two-time F4 National Champion (2012 and 2013) while he won the MRF Formula 1600 International Challenge in 2010 and 2011. This isn’t the first time that a car racer has met an accident. In 1976 German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, Ferrai racer Nikki Lauda met with a serious accident on track and came close to death. He was inside the burning car for a while and inhaled hot toxic gases that damaged his lungs and blood. However, he returned to racing within few weeks.
On November 30, 2013, The Fast and Furious star, Paul Walker and his friend Roger Rodas crashed into a concrete lamp post and two tree while driving their Porsche Carrera GT. Rodas died of multiple trauma while Walker died from the combined effects of trauma and burns. Their bodies were beyond recognition after the accident.
