India’s biggest medal hope at the Commonwealth Games 2026 arrives on Sunday as Olympic silver medallist Mirabai Chanu competes in the women’s 48kg weightlifting final at Glasgow.
The 31-year-old weightlifting icon will be chasing her third Commonwealth Games gold medal after winning titles at Gold Coast 2018 and Birmingham 2022. She also claimed silver on her Commonwealth Games debut at Glasgow 2014, making this her fourth appearance at the multi-sport event.
Mirabai enters the competition as one of India’s strongest gold medal contenders and one of the biggest names at Glasgow 2026. She was also chosen as one of India’s two flag bearers at the opening ceremony alongside Olympic bronze medallist boxer Lovlina Borgohain.
Having returned to full fitness after managing injuries in recent seasons, Mirabai will be aiming to add another Commonwealth title to her glittering resume, which already includes an Olympic silver medal, a World Championship gold and multiple international medals.
