Prominent Indian cricketer KL Rahul recently stirred curiosity with a cryptic social media post. The star athlete took to Instagram to share a story that has sparked considerable speculation among cricket fans. In his post, Rahul teased, “I have an announcement to make, stay tuned.”

This was enough to cause a stir on the internet, with some fans questioning whether Rahul was really thinking about retiring and others proposing that he declare that he would be joining Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 2025 Indian Premier League.

Amidst another social media post that features a screenshot purportedly from Rahul’s account which says,  “After much reflection and consideration, I have decided to announce my retirement from professional cricket. This decision has not been easy, as this sport has been a significant part of my life for many years.”

Contrary to this rumour, these are fake claims and Rahul will not be making an announcement about his retirement, given the cricket player was one of India’s heroes in the ODI World Cup 2023 last year. Instead, the announcement that the fun clubs are poking fun of seems to be a phoney one. Notably, KL Rahul scored 31 runs in his two innings of play during the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

KL Rahul has represented India in all three formats. He has represented the nation in 50 Tests, 77 ODIs and 72 T20Is, amassing 2863, 2851 and 2265 runs in the three competitions, respectively. Rahul performed admirably in the ODI World Cup 2023 with the gloves behind the stumps while also contributing with the bat, despite Rishabh Pant’s injury.
