Rajasthan Royals’ commanding four-match winning streak in IPL 2024 came to a dramatic halt as Gujarat Titans clinched a thrilling three-wicket victory on Wednesday. Despite the setback, Rajasthan Royals maintain their position at the top of the table. However, it was a double blow for RR as Sanju Samson was fined.
The Rajasthan Royals’ captain faced a fine following his team’s slow over rate against the Titans. According to an IPL release, this marked the team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over rate violations, resulting in a fine of ₹12 lakhs for Samson.
RR vs GT match summary
Batting first, RR lost Jaiswal and Buttler quickly, but that didn’t stop them from taking risks. Captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag started hitting boundaries all over the stadium. Samson scored 68 at a strike rate of 178, while Parag scored 76 at a strike rate of 158. They reached a total of 196 runs at the end of 20 overs.
In their chase, Gujarat Titans started cautiously to save the wickets during the power play. Despite a slower run rate, they ensured they had wickets in hand. However, Rajasthan Royals’ pacer Kuldeep Sen changed the game with a fiery spell, taking three crucial wickets – Sai Sudharsan, Matthew Wade, and Abhinav Manohar – putting GT on the back foot. Skipper Shubman Gill’s resilient half-century kept GT’s hopes alive, but his dismissal by Chahal on 72 dashed their hopes. With GT at 157/6, it seemed the Pink Fortress wouldn’t be breached. However, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia turned the tide. In the end, Rashid Khan’s winning boundary secured victory for GT, ending RR’s winning streak tonight.
