Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recently gave his brutal assessment of India’s performance in the Test series against England. He suggested that while India may have performed well in parts of the matches, it’s England who have won more games overall. “Overall, if you add up all the games, it’s a bit like that – one team has won more games whereas the other one has won more sets,” Gavaskar said.
Gavaskar’s brutal assessment
The former batter said, “At the end of the day, it’s not about the wickets you take or the runs you score, it’s the result that matters.”
Building on his previous comment on India’s inability to capitalise on their winning momentum across matches in the series, India’s popular batting legend remarked, “ Unless India wins this game and levels the series, you have to admit that so far, England has been the better team. It does not matter how many sessions you have won”
Ind vs Eng: How did day 4 conclude?
Day 4 witnessed some remarkable cricketing moments engineered by both teams. Harry Brook and Joe Root led England’s batting by making impressive scores. Brook (111) was dismissed shortly after his century when he mistimed a shot, giving India a crucial breakthrough.
Root smashed a sensational ton (105) before edging a delivery from Prasidh Krishna, giving India another important wicket. These late wickets have given India a fighting chance against the home side.
As rain and poor lighting wrapped up the play early on Day 4 of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar series. England stands at 339 for six, trailing 35 runs behind India. Wicket-keeper batsman Jamie Smith and right-arm pacer Jamie Overton are set to take the crease for the English side on Day 5.
India vs England Test day 5 prediction
Analysts predict higher chances of England registering a triumph as the homeside requires just 35 more runs to win, while India needs four wickets (or three if Chris Woakes, who is injured, does not bat) to level the series for a tie.
