The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited applicants for the position of head coach (Senior Men). As per the advisory issued by BCCI, the newly appointed head coach will have a tenure of three and a half years, starting from July 1, 2024 till December 31, 2027.

Notably, following the ODI World Cup last year, head coach Rahul Dravid’s stint came to an end. However, in light of the impending T20 World Cup in the United States and the West Indies, his contract was later extended till June.

The notification releases states that the applications for the position should be submitted by 6PM IST on May 27, 2024. Additionally, the selection process will include a thorough review of applications, followed by personal interviews and assessments of shortlisted candidates.

Eligibility criteria and responsibilities

Following are the eligibility criteria as mentioned by BCCI in its notification:

  • Should have played minimum of 30 Test Matches or 50 ODI’s
  • Head Coach of a full member Test Playing Nation, for a minimum period of 2 years
  • Head Coach of an Associate member /IPL Team or Equivalent International League/First Class Teams/ National A teams, for a minimum period of 3 years
  • Should have BCCI Level 3 Certification or equivalent
  • Should be below 60 years of age

Further, the candidate will be responsible for developing a world class Indian cricket team along with an overall responsibility for the performance and management of the India Men’s team in all three formats of the game.  The Head Coach will also lead a team of specialist coaches and support staff and will be responsible for defining their roles, their performance and ongoing development.  He will be responsible for reviewing, maintaining, and enforcing the disciplinary codes within the Indian Men’s team.
