Labour force parity is nearly absent in India. Labour force parity is the female-to-male balance in terms of formal labour force participation according to a ratio of 60:40 or 40:60. Out of 30 countries, only eight countries are characterised by at least 40% of their labour force sectors within the ideal 60:40 or 40:60 ratio. For India and Pakistan all employment sectors are highly sex segregated so that no employment sectors are balanced.

The two top scoring countries, Sweden and the UK, are both involved in initiatives to further integrate traditionally male dominated sectors. In Sweden, the Swedish metals mining company Boliden has set a goal to increase the participation of women to at least 20% by the end of 2018.

Even South Africa has a 10% female participation target — to be raised to 20% by 2018 — for the male dominated mining industry . Will Indian entrepreneurs wake up to the challenge in the New Year?
