HDFC Bank credit card holders alert! From July 1, 2025, the bank will implement new charges and limits on many expenses. If you make payments related to gaming apps (like Dream11, MPL), wallet loading, utility bills, or rent and education from your card, then now you may have to pay additional charges on these. Therefore, it is important that you understand these new rules carefully so that unnecessary charges can be avoided and your expenses can be managed better.

HDFC Bank has made some important changes in its credit card rules and charge limits. If you also run an HDFC credit card, then beware of these changes:

Gaming transactions (Dream11, Rummy, MPL etc.)

Now no reward points will be given on skill-based online gaming (like Dream11, Rummy Culture, Junglee Games, MPL).

If you spend more than Rs 10,000 in a month, then 1% charge will be levied on the entire expenditure.

Maximum charge limit: Rs 4,999 per month.

Example: If you spend Rs 15,000 then 1% (Rs 150) will be charged on the entire Rs 15,000 but not more than Rs 4,999.

Maximum charge limit: Rs 4,999 per month.

Note: Insurance premium is not a utility bill, so this charge will not be applicable on it.

Was 5,000 points/day, now 10,000 points/month.

On Diners Black / Diners Black Metal / H.O.G Diners Club / Biz Black Metal:

Rent, fuel and education transactions

These categories were previously charged 1% – now capped at a monthly upper limit of ₹4,999.

Fuel: Charged on entire spend if spend exceeds ₹15,000.

Will these changes apply to you?

If you often make large expenses and transactions, the new charges may affect you. But if you spend below the monthly limits, these charges will not be taken from you.

Tip: It is beneficial to pay education fees directly from the institution’s website, as this can avoid upper limit charges.

Plan wisely

In view of these rules, now it will be beneficial for HDFC credit cardholders to manage their expenses a little wisely. By keeping an eye on which transaction is going above the limit, which deduction is being made – you can avoid unnecessary charges.
