Domestic equity markets closed flat on Thursday as derivatives expiry, a long weekend and RBI’s monetary policy meeting next week deterred investors from building large positions. Sensex gained 40.51 pts to close at 25,863.50 and Nifty settled at 7,868.50.

Elder Pharmaceuticals: The drug firm’s shares rose sharply by over 12 per cent as the board is scheduled to meet next week to consider sale of its overseas subsidiaries. After surging 16.41 per cent to Rs 117.40 intra-day, shares of the company ended at Rs 113.35, a gain of 12.39 per cent on BSE.

Hindustan Construction Company(HCC): HCC shares gained nearly 9 per cent after the firm bagged a Rs 1,783.42-crore contract from NHAI for construction of a highway in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). Later, the scrip closed 1.68 per cent up at Rs 18.15.

Strides Arcolab: The shares of the company gained over 3 per cent in the morning trade after Jefferies, a global investment banking firm, initiated coverage with a ‘buy’ rating with a target price of Rs 1,500 per share.The share price closed 1.86 per cent up at Rs 1,238.40 on BSE.

NIIT: NIIT shares gained over 4 per cent in the morning trade on Thursday after the company said that it will set up a delivery centre in Dublin, creating 110 jobs over five years. The share price of the company settled 2.74 per cent up at Rs 71.35.
