Indian equity benchmarks closed Friday’s trade on a higher note, witnessing a sharp rebound in later trade hours. The Nifty 50 ended the day 30 points or 0.12% higher at 25,910, and the Sensex surged 84 points or 0.10% to end at 84,563.
The banking stocks outperformed the benchmarks. The Nifty Bank settled 135 points or 0.23% higher at 58,517. The small-cap stocks also rose in today’s trade. The BSE Midcap finished flat at 47,187. The BSE Smallcap finished 34 points or 0.06% higher at 53,130.
Summing up today’s trade, Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments, said that the market managed to close in the green, supported by banking and FMCG stocks, while the NDA victory in the Bihar state election added impetus to sentiment. A positive turnaround in Q2 FY26 results and benign inflation are making the H2 FY26 earnings outlook brighter.
“Bank Nifty crossed the 58,500 mark and registered a record weekly closing high. The index continues to form higher highs and higher lows, consistently taking support near its 21-DMA around 58,000. Momentum indicators and oscillators on the weekly chart remain firmly in buy mode. In the near term, Bank Nifty is expected to advance toward 59,200, with potential to extend the move to the 60,000 level,” said Nilesh Jain, Head of Technical and Derivatives Research Analyst at Centrum Broking.

Indices in intraday trade
The indices closed the trade on a higher note. During the session, out of 3,188 trading stocks, 1,483 advanced, while 1,623 declined, and 82 remained unchanged. Today, 59 stocks hit a fresh 52-week high. Meanwhile, 116 stocks touched a new 52-week low.
Top gainers
Tata Motors CV was the top gainer in the Nifty 50 in Friday’s session, closing 3.2% higher. It was followed by Eternal (Zomato), Bharat Electronics, Axis Bank, and Trent.
Top losers
Infosys’ shares were the biggest losers in today’s trade, declining 2.3%. It was followed by Eicher Motors, Tata Steel, HDFC Life Insurance, and Tata Motors PV were the major losers.
