It’s time for Apple’s WWDC 2026 – the annual Apple event where the company lays out its roadmap for the upcoming year in front of the public. The WWDC keynote event is where everything new and cool related to the entire Apple ecosystem and this year, the company has unveiled a major AI upgrade for Siri with Siri AI. And probably more – there’s always room for that “one more thing”.
iOS 27 and Siri AI: The biggest stars of the show
This year’s WWDC has revealed some of the upcoming software updates expected to reach the public this fall: iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, tvOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.
Apple has also relied on its partnership with Google to base its Apple Foundational AI models on Google Gemini models. This has not only added smart AI features in all apps and services across the Apple ecosystem devices, but it also adds smartness to Siri with Siri AI. Siri AI gets a dedicated app on all Apple devices to utilise smart GenAI features for basic functionalities.
After a rather disappointing outing two years ago, Apple has undergone a complete strategy rethink. Instead of putting all the efforts into developing a proprietary LLM to power the advanced intelligence features on iPhones, Macs and iPads, Apple has employed a different strategy – join hands with one of its rivals to power its AI, i.e., Google. After the deal went public, Apple is now doubling down on its efforts to ‘AI-fy’ its entire ecosystem.
iOS 27 coming to iPhone 11 and newer
For all those who missed, iOS 27 is coming to the iPhone 11, which was launched in 2019. A seven year old iPhone getting a new software update in 2026.
