Taking care of your skin is super important, and moisturizing plays a big role in keeping it healthy and looking good. But did you know that different parts of your skin need different kinds of moisture? According to Mini Sood Banerjee, Assistant Director and Head of Marketing and Training, Amorepacific Group, recognising the moisture requirements of every part of our skin, from the face to the body, is crucial for keeping our skin healthy and glowing.
Our skin varies in texture, sensitivity, and oil production across different areas, necessitating tailored hydration strategies, Banerjee told Financial Express.com.
Priya Bhandari, Head of Training, Skeyndor revealed that your face is pretty sensitive and gets exposed to a lot of stuff like pollution and sunlight.
“Plus, some parts of your face can get oily, especially your forehead, nose, and chin. So, it’s important to pick the right moisturizer for your skin type. If you have oily skin, go for a light, oil-free moisturizer that won’t clog your pores but will still keep your skin hydrated.” Bhandari told Financial Express.com.
For dry skin, you’ll want something richer and creamier with ingredients like hyaluronic acid to lock in moisture and fix your skin barrier, she suggested.
And if your skin is a mix of oily and dry that is the combination skin, find a moisturizer that gives hydration without making your T-zone worse, she said.
“Unlike the rest of the skin, your lips don’t have oil glands, which means they can get really dry and cracked, especially in bad weather. Using lip balm or coconut oil can keep them soft and smooth, ” she told Financial Express.com.
According to Banerjee, the skin of the face is often more delicate and prone to dryness, especially around the eyes and cheeks. Lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizers are ideal for the face, ensuring hydration without clogging pores, she suggested.
Moving on to your neck and chest area, the skin there is thinner and more likely to wrinkle or sag because it doesn’t produce as much collagen. So, it’s a good idea to use a moisturizer with anti-aging ingredients like retinol or peptides to keep it firm and hydrated.
“…these areas often exhibit signs of aging and require rich, nourishing creams to combat dryness and maintain elasticity. The elbows, knees, and heels tend to be rougher and thicker, requiring intensive moisturization with emollient-rich formulas to soften and smooth rough patches,” Banerjee told Financial Express.com.
Your hands go through a lot—washing dishes, scrubbing, you name it. So, they need extra love. Look for a hand cream with things like ceramides to keep them moisturized and soft. And don’t forget to reapply after washing your hands.
“Hands, being constantly exposed to environmental stressors and frequent washing, benefit from regular application of hydrating hand creams to prevent dryness and cracking,” Banerjee said.
“As for the rest of your body, it needs moisture too! Your skin varies in thickness and texture, but using a body lotion or cream with hydrating ingredients like jojoba oil or cocoa butter can keep it from getting dry and itchy,” Bhandari told Financial Express.com.
Meanwhile, Banerjee suggested that particularly in the arms and legs, a balance of lightweight hydration and occlusive ingredients helps to lock in moisture without feeling heavy or greasy.
According to Bhandari, knowing what each part of your skin needs can help you take care of it better. By picking the right products for your skin type and using things like sunscreen, you can keep your skin looking great and protect it from damage, she said.
“Understanding the specific needs of each skin area empowers individuals to choose products tailored to their unique requirements, resulting in overall skin health and a youthful glow. Regular exfoliation can also enhance the effectiveness of moisturizers by removing dead skin cells and allowing deeper penetration of hydrating ingredients,” Banerjee said.
In Summer, from the delicate facial skin to the resilient body areas, a targeted approach to moisturizing ensures that every part of our skin receives the care it deserves, promoting hydration, elasticity, and a vibrant complexion, she added.
