Ram Charan’s Peddi continued its box office run on day 2, but not without turbulence. After a record-breaking opening that saw it gross over Rs 135 crore worldwide on its first day, the Buchi Babu Sana directorial witnessed a steep decline on Friday — a pattern not uncommon for big-ticket releases that open on weekday paid previews and ride heavily on opening-day euphoria.

Even so, the cumulative numbers tell a story of incredible momentum, with the film crossing the Rs 150 crore worldwide mark by the end of its second day.

The day 2 numbers: a steep but not unusual drop

According to industry tracker website Sacnilk, Peddi collected Rs 32 crore net on day 2 (Friday, June 5), bringing its two-day total to Rs 114.5 crore net across 23,372 shows with approximately 8.55 lakh footfalls.

The India gross collection for the two-day period stands at around Rs 114.49 crore, as reported by The Week, which also noted the film’s cumulative net domestic collection reaching Rs 96.4 crore when including preview earnings.

The drop from day 1’s Rs 51 crore net to day 2’s Rs 32 crore represents a dip of nearly 50 per cent — significant, but not unprecedented for films with front-loaded openings driven by fan frenzy.

Trade tracker TrackTollywood reported the film playing to 10,791 shows across 1,030 cities on day 2, posting an overall occupancy of 36 per cent. In terms of reception, while Ram Charan’s performance, the cinematography, and A.R. Rahman’s background score drew widespread praise, some audiences expressed disappointment with certain aspects of the plot — which may have contributed to the drop in footfalls heading into the first Friday.

Worldwide tally and the road ahead

On the overseas front, the film continued to perform steadily. As per Sacnilk, Peddi’s total worldwide gross crossed Rs 150 crore within two days of its release — a significant milestone that keeps the film in contention as a commercially viable venture.

The makers had confirmed an official day 1 worldwide gross of Rs 135.36 crore, and with day 2 adding further to that tally globally, the film has built a reasonable cushion heading into the crucial first weekend.

The weekend will be the real test. Sacnilk has noted that the film’s total worldwide business is valued at around Rs 220 crore, with a break-even target of approximately Rs 450 crore worldwide.

With advance bookings for day 3 already showing Rs 16.64 crore across 10,369 shows — including 46 housefull shows — as per TrackTollywood, the film is expected to see an uptick on Saturday.

Produced by Mythri Movie Makers, Sukumar Writings, Vriddhi Cinemas, and IVY Entertainment, Peddi stars Ram Charan alongside Janhvi Kapoor, Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu. Whether the weekend surge is strong enough to put the film firmly on a hit trajectory remains to be seen.
