Actor Dulquer Salmaan has, in recent years, established himself as one of the most versatile actors in South Indian cinema with a slew of critically and commercially acclaimed movies like Sita Ramam, Bangalore Days, Charlie, and Mahanati.

Now, his latest release Kaantha is the talk of the town and has been since its release on November 15, 2025. Directed by Selvamani Selvaraj and produced by Spirit Media and Wayfarer Films, the film features an incredibly talented cast comprising Bhagyashri Borse, Rana Daggubati, Samuthirakani, and Bijesh Nagesh.

After a promising weekend at the Box Office, the movie faced its first real test on Monday, where collections dipped as expected, yet the film managed to cross the Rs 15 crore India net milestone in just four days.

How did Kaantha perform at the Box Office?

Kaantha opened strongly on Day 1 with Rs 4.35 crore, followed by a jump on Day 2 with Rs 5 crore. The momentum carried into Day 3 with Rs 4.5 crore, bringing the three-day total to Rs 13.85 crore. However, Day 4 (Monday) saw a sharp decline, with collections estimated at Rs 1.65 crore across all languages.

This slowdown was anticipated, given that Monday typically sees reduced footfall compared to the weekend. Still, the film’s India net collection now stands at Rs 15.50 crore, marking a significant milestone for the Dulquer Salmaan-led drama.

Theatre occupancy on Day 4

The film’s occupancy numbers revealed the Monday slump. Tamil occupancy averaged 12.85% overall, with afternoon shows performing slightly better at 13.81%. Chennai recorded the highest Tamil occupancy at 17% across 220 shows, while Pondicherry and Trichy stood out with 29.25% and 31.50% respectively, though on a smaller base of 28 and 42 shows.

In Telugu regions, occupancy was lower at 10.91%, with Hyderabad leading at 12.75% across 374 shows. Guntur showed strong support with 19.50% occupancy from 65 shows, while Vijayawada had 85 shows at 11.25% occupancy and Vizag-Visakhapatnam had 100 shows with 12.25% occupancy. Bengaluru, which had 266 shows, saw a more modest turnout at 14.50%.

What lies ahead for Kaantha?

Despite the Monday slowdown, Kaantha has already crossed the Rs 15 crore mark in India net collections within four days – a commendable feat for a period-style film that has been described by viewers as slow and arthouse-like. With actors Dulquer Salmaan and Bhagyashri Borse’s performance being widely praised and Rana Daggubati’s presence adding star power, the film is expected to regain momentum as it heads into the second weekend.

If the positive word-of-mouth continues, Kaantha could eye the Rs 25 crore milestone in its first week, especially with strong regional support in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. The coming weekend will be important in determining whether the film can sustain its pace and emerge as one of Dulquer’s more successful ventures in recent years.
