Dhanush‘s Idli Kadai has sustained its momentum on Day 2 of its release. The family entertainer has received a thumbs up from the audience, as social media trends suggest fans are loving the simple storytelling and feel-good appeal of the movie.

After amassing Rs 11 crore on its first day, the Tamil entertainer hasn’t slowed down on Day 2, collecting Rs 10 crore for all languages, according to early estimates posted by trade website Sacnilk. The combined total of Dhanush’s third biggest opener is Rs 21 crore. The film couldn’t beat Kuberaa (14.75 cr) and Raayan (13.70 cr) numbers, according to Koimoi.

On October 2, Idli Kadai had an overall 59.87% Tamil occupancy, with afternoon shows attracting the maximum audience with 70.02% occupancy. Evening and night shows had the occupancy rates of 69.21% and 65.26% according to Sacnilk.

This film directed by Dhanush and produced by Wunderbar Films and Dawn Pictures, stars Dhanush, Nithya Menen, Arun Vijay, Sathyaraj, Shalini Pandey, and Rajkiran in key roles.

Fans thrilled with the box office reactions

Movie buffs who loved the film are excited about the movie’s box office reception.

“A double digit opening day in TN..🔥 With a low hype, Dhanush pulled off a double digit opening with Good WOM & rampage evening – night shows..solid run on cards,” wrote one.

“Dhanush’s Idli Kadai once again sets an example that if the film is liked by the family audience, then it’ll be non-stop at box office,” noted another one.

Mixed reactions for the film

While many feel the family entertainer has a refreshing appeal, others disagree saying it has a stale look and feel.

“When Dhanush directs, no two characters ever feel the same. 🎬🔥From Pa. Paandi to NEEK, every role is fresh & layered with no recycled shades, unlike how many top directors reuse their blockbuster characters in other films, wrote a user about the film, giving it a positive review.

Not many agree though, as an X user compared the film to an old Idli – dry and tasteless.

“Idli Kadai is like an old Idli left on the counter dry, flat and tasteless. Same old VIP batter, no steam of emotion, stale, tired revenge chutney on top. Nothing to relish, nothing to digest. First half was watchable but second half complete letdown!” a comment read.

Idli Kadai storyline

The film captures the journey of a simple village boy Murugan (Dhanush) who dreams of becoming an international chef. Pursuing his dream would mean leaving behind his village Sangarapuram and also the iconic idli eatery. Years later, Murugan, who now works for the multi-millionaire Vishnuvardhan in Bangkok, is set to marry his daughter, Meera.
