Aiyaary box office collections: Neeraj Pandey’s Aiyaary that released on Friday, February 16, received a decent response from the audience in overseas. Aiyaary released across 396 screens in 39 countries. The delay in release combined with the on-screen competition from PadMan and Padmaavat made matters worse for Aiyaary. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the overseas collections on the first day of the movie were Rs 12.53 lakh ($19,474) from 23 screens across Australia and Rs 5.23 lakh ($8,127) from 11 screens across New Zealand. As far as the Indian market goes, the film had 6291 shows on day 1 and opened with an occupancy rate of around 25 to 30 per cent. The viewership did increase during the evening and night shows but despite that, the film has reportedly managed to earn around Rs 3.5 crore.

Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Manjoy Bajpayee in lead roles, Aiyaary is based on a true story. The film also featured Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah in important roles. The film has opened to mixed reviews suggesting that it has a clumsy script and a lengthy run-time. Film critic Taran Adarsh rated the film with two stars and called it “disappointing” in his tweet.

In a series of tweets, Adarsh said that apart from having a muddled screenwriting, the movie was also afflicted by “lethargic pacing”. Despite being a Neeraj Pandey film, the movie lacked the basic punch associated with the director’s previous films. Pandey, who is known for his skillful direction having made films like MS Dhoni: An untold story, could not match up to his set levels with Aiyaary.

Aiyaary released on 2150 screens in total worldwide with 396 screens overseas and 1754 in India, tweeted Taran Adarsh. The film analyst also said that Aiyaary was Pandey’s “weakest work” till date. One of the tracks from the film, “Lae Dooba” featured in the top radio charts and did well among the listeners. Though expectations were kept high for the movie, it garnered a fairly low box office collection both in the country and overseas.
