The Indian Institute of Management Udaipur (IIMU) has finally launched the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programme – something that has long been offered at about 15 of the 21 IIMs, and at most top business schools.
“A unique feature of our EMBA is flexibility,” Prof Ashok Banerjee, director, IIM Udaipur, told FE. “It will commence on May 18, 2024, is two-year-long, online, and has two one-week on-campus modules to foster networking. It employs a high-touch approach with live sessions, interactive learning, and exclusive C-suite interactions, providing participants with insights from industry leaders.”
The C-suite interactions will happen once a month, online, and EMBA students will interact with 24 CXOs over 24 months. As far as campus modules are concerned, in the second module the students will be exposed to virtual reality and modern technology.
He added that the curriculum comprises of 1,250 contact hours, covering business and functional foundations, and managerial toolkit, complemented by diverse electives.
What sets it apart is it is the first IIM EMBA to offer flexibility through multiple-entry and stage-wise completion, which the NEP 2020 allows. “You can join the EMBA, and suppose after one year you cannot continue, you can take a diploma and exit. You can rejoin within four years and earn your degree,” Prof Banerjee said. “In case someone has earned a diploma from another IIM, that student can join the EMBA and IIM Udaipur and get a degree.”
He added that participants will benefit from credit-based waivers, acknowledging their prior academic achievements. “Upon completing the EMBA, participants will receive an MBA degree from IIM Udaipur, and be given the status of alumni,” Prof Banerjee said. “It’s primarily for working professionals seeking to elevate their careers without putting their current commitments on hold.”
Students can apply online on IIMU website, and they will be called for a personal interview (online) based on their GMAT or GRE score (not older than five years) or CAT score of tests taken in 2020 or later. The EMBA costs Rs 14.2 lakh.
