Congress workers organised a protest march in Ranchi, Jharkhand on Friday, expressing their outrage over alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG 2024 examination and demanding the cancellation of the test. The demonstration, led by state Congress president Rajesh Thakur, began at Sahid Chowk and proceeded to Raj Bhavan, covering approximately two kilometres.

During the protest, Congress workers vociferously chanted slogans against the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. They demanded immediate action, including the arrest of those implicated in the alleged irregularities surrounding the NEET-UG 2024 exams. Rajesh Thakur criticised the central government for its lack of response, stating, “We demand the cancellation of the examinations and the arrest of those involved in the crime.”

Thakur and the protestors highlighted their concerns about the integrity of the examination process, particularly in light of the allegations of question paper leaks in states such as Bihar. They argued that these irregularities undermine the fairness and credibility of the exam, which is crucial for aspiring medical students.

Demand for resignation of union education minister

In addition to calling for the cancellation of the exam, the Congress workers also demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. They accused him of failing to ensure the integrity of the examination process and called for accountability at the highest levels of government.

The NEET-UG, a pivotal medical entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency, took place on May 5, with approximately 24 lakh candidates participating. The results were announced on June 4, but the allegations of question paper leaks have cast a shadow over the examination’s credibility. The protest in Ranchi reflects the growing discontent and demand for justice among students and political leaders alike.
