After the Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Act was passed, the Indian Institute of Art and Design (IIAD) has now officially become a full university. It is now known as the University of Design, Innovation and Technology (UDIT), according to an official press statement.
UDIT is designed as a multidisciplinary university that brings together design, technology, and business management instead of keeping them separate. The university is led by Chancellor Ajit Singh Chadha and Pro-Chancellor Jitin Chadha, and aims to create “a “University for Creators” who can work across different fields in today’s tech-driven world.
As industries have evolved, it has become clear that design alone cannot solve today’s complex problems. “Modern-day issues arise from the intersection of design, technology, and business; however, the modern-day approach to education is still based on separating these three aspects,” Jitin Chadha said.
Adding to it he mentioned that, “This issue is being successfully solved at UDIT, which combines these areas in one holistic system. Students here are empowered with a comprehensive curriculum which prepares them with the right skills.”
Academic schools and program offerings
UDIT has three main schools – Design, Technology, and Management. However, each school is not seen as an independent unit. Instead, they work together as a single ecosystem. Students can develop skills and focus on their chosen field while also collaborating with other disciplines through studios and projects. This helps them understand how areas like UX, technology, and business come together in real-world situations.
School of Design continues the strong foundation built by IIAD over the past 10 years and focuses heavily on studio-based learning.
-B.Des (4 Years): Fashion Design, Communication Design, Interior Architecture & Design, Fashion Communication, Animation Film Design, and Product Design.
-M.Des (2 Years): Interior Design & Styling, Communication Design.
School of Technology
This is a newer area that combines engineering with creative fields.
-B.Tech (4 Years): Computer Science and Design, with specialisations in Creative Technology, Product Design & Engineering, and Sustainable Technology.
-M.Tech: Advanced courses in Computer Science and AI-based design.
School of Management
This school focuses on business as both a creative and strategic discipline.
-BBA (4 Years): Fashion Business Management, Luxury Business Management, and Technology Business Management.
-MBA (2 Years): Luxury & Fashion Business Management.
With artificial intelligence becoming increasingly important, UDIT claims to have included advanced technologies in its curriculum. Students not only learn how to use AI tools but also apply them to build products, services, and systems.
The job market in 2026 is expected to change significantly, with a growing demand for multidisciplinary roles in areas like product development, digital systems, and technology-driven businesses. Experts believe that employers today focus more on skills than degrees, and with the rise of low-code and no-code tools, students can easily bring their ideas to life.
“In line with these trends, UDIT prepares graduates who can operate in a complex environment, engage in critical and cross-domain thinking, and turn their ideas into reality,” Jitin Chadha further added.
