As Priyanka Gandhi filed her nomination from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, a constituency was left vacant after Rahul Gandhi chose to continue as an MP from Raebareli, a roadshow was held in this Kerala constituency, where Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge came to support her candidature.
During a fun banter, when Rahul Gandhi was asked if Priyanka Gandhi Vadra would be a better MP for Wayanad, he first said, “It is a tough question” and immediately added, “I don’t think so.” The sibling duo, who seem to have an affable rapport, then had a burst of laughter, alongside other Congress leaders.
When asked who would he choose as the MP of Wayanad, other than himself, he opted for sister Priyanka Gandhi. Explaining his answer, he said, “Not because I like her or I am very fond of her and love her very much. But she will actually do a good job. She has many qualities. She goes into a lot of detail. And she is my sister.”

To this, Priyanka recognised Rahul Gandhi’s love for the people of Wayanad and vice versa. “I hope to be able to continue that bond with them,” she added.
In a minute-long video, Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are seen having a candid conversation about Wayanad, earlier represented by Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha from 2019-2024. The video begins with Priyanka Gandhi asking, “What is this face you are making?” “I will miss Wayanad, that is the face I am making,” Gandhi added.
In the Lok Sabha election 2024, Rahul Gandhi won both Wayanad and Raebareli seats and decided to retain the latter, paving the way for a by-poll in Wayanad.
In the video, Gandhi can be heard showering heaps of praise on his sister. “If she likes you, she will do whatever; beyond anything you can imagine. She is also going to like Wayanad a lot. You see, a huge part of being a good MP is that you like the people and place you work for. She is going to like it,” he exclaimed.

Wayanad byelection
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra filed her nomination on Wednesday for the bypoll in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency after leading a massive roadshow through Kalpetta town and promising the voters of the hilly constituency that she would stand by them through thick and thin.
The top leadership of the Congress party with the likes of AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge, former president and Rajya Sabha MP Sonia Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, chief ministers of party-ruled states like Karnataka, Telangana and Himachal Pradesh were in attendance in Wayanad to support Priyanka as she plunged into electoral politics.
Priyanka, 52, was fielded by the Congress in the bypoll in Wayanad after Rahul Gandhi vacated the constituency to retain his second seat Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. Priyanka is up against former three-time MLA Sathyan Mokeri of the CPI and two-time municipal councillor Navya Haridas of the BJP.
