Something is certainly not right with the Bollywood’s famed Bachchan family. In tune with the majority of Indian citizens who have supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation decision, actors Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai have extended their support for the move. However, Amitabh’s wife and Samajwadi Party politician Jaya Bachchan was seen today sharing the stage with the opposite camp led by leaders like Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee.

Banerjee is camping in Delhi to force the Modi government to roll back the demonetisation decision. While Jaya has not clearly explained her personal take on the issue, she has made it clear that she is against the move by joining Banerjee at Jantar Mantar. Jaya’s decision also shows that the Bachchan family is either divided in their opinions on demonetisation move or they have just taken a stand that suits best to their personal interests.

Being actors, Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya can’t afford not to take a stand against the majority. Being a politician, Jaya can’t take a stand against her own party. One wonders if the Bachchan family members talk among each other on matters related to the country or not?

Some may even argue on what is the point in highlighting the difference of opinion in one of the most famous Bollywood family. But on a matter concerning the country, people would have appreciated if the views of all members were similar, especially when the family flaunts a united front in other instances. Why not on demonetisation?
