Weather Forecast Live Updates: Heavy rains pounded several parts of North India over the weekend, killing at least 19 in cases of floods and landslides across regions. The worst hit areas were Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi-NCR. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alerts in Uttarakhand and ten districts of Himachal Pradesh as water levels rose in all major rivers, and floods and landslides battered the hill states.
Frightening images of the chaos – vehicles floating like paper boats, muddy waters gushing into residential areas, structures submerged on the banks by the swollen rivers and land cave-ins – were shared online by people from Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Delhi.

The Shimla-Chandigarh highway has been blocked due to floods in Himachal Pradesh. Alternate routes have also been blocked and movement to and from Chandigarh has been disrupted.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday reviewed the flood situation and its impact on national highways in several states, including J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and others.
In this special meeting, attended by the Secretary of Road Transport and Highways, NHAI Chairman, DG Roads, and other officers, Gadkari instructed officials to prioritize the repair and maintenance of the affected highways. (ANI)

Yamuna River has breached the danger mark in Delhi. At 2 pm, the water level of the river was recorded at 204.88 metres at Old Railway Bridge. The warning level of the river is 204.50 metres. (ANI)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday took stock of the situation as landslides and flash floods, triggered by heavy rain in several parts of North India, claimed over 20 lives in the past three days.
“Spoke to senior Ministers and officials, and took stock of the situation in the wake of excessive rainfall in parts of India. Local administrations, NDRF and SDRF teams are working to ensure the well-being of those affected,” PMO said in a tweet.

Heavy rains lashed Noida on Monday afternoon, bringing respite from hot weather and humidity.
While addressing the media on the situation arising out of heavy rains in northern India, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “This is not the time to point fingers at each other. The governments of all affected states need to work together to provide relief to the public.”
As torrential rains battered several parts of Punjab, Army assistance was sought by the Patiala district administration after water overflowed from the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) canal in Rajpura town following a breach. (PTI)

“The water level in Yamuna River is expected to breach the danger mark by 11 am tomorrow (Tuesday). I have come here to monitor preparation for the evacuation plan,” Delhi Minister and AAP leader Atishi said. (PTI)

At least nine people have died in Uttarakhand due to floods and landslides in the state. An orange alert has been issued across 13 districts today, and heavy clouds have emerged in Uttarkashi, Haridwar, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag and Nainital.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has called a meeting on Monday to discuss the weather situation in the city. Delhi witnessed heavy downpours, flooding, waterlogging, and traffic on Sunday. The water level in Yamuna also rose as more than one lakh cusecs of water was released from the Hathnikund barrage. The meeting will be attended by MCD officials and flood control department officials.
The Chandigarh-Manali national highway has been closed following massive landslides in Mandi. This has led to tourists being stranded in the area. However, there have been no casualties.

Heavy rain is expected in Delhi on Monday as well. A flood warning was issued by the state government, as Haryana released more than one lakh cusecs of water into the Yamuna river.
