A video going viral online shows Congress leader and Punjab Technical Education minister Charanjit Singh Channi using a coin to decide what has been reported as a transfer case. The video shows Channi tossing a coin as some onlookers stand before him. According to reports, the toss was conducted to decide on a matter of transfer and posting. Charanjit Singh Channi is a part of the Captain Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government where he handles the technical education department.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was quick to react and condemn the minister. BJP GVL Narasimha Rao said he wanted Punjab CM Amarinder Singh to take action against the mkinister. Terming the incident as shocking, Rao said that the accused minister “is a gambler and not a minister”, reported News18. He added that now Amarinder Singh should publicly toss and decide whether the minister should be sacked or forced to resign.

Earlier on February 12, Channi had ordered the academic and administrative audit of government and private technical institutions in the state. According to an official release, Channi had issued the order in a meeting with officials of the technical education and industrial training department and board. He said that to improve the quality of technical education in the state, major changes and steps were being taken. This audit would be done by government officials, Channi said, adding that the audit report would be submitted by March 31 and after this, 15 days would be given to the institutes to fulfil the shortcomings, according to PTI.

There is still no official word on the issue, though the Congress has said that the minister had done nothing wrong. “Decisions in World Cup also happen by toss, Mr. Channi has not done a crime,” a TV report quoted Charan Singh Sapra as saying.
