Veteran BJP leader Chandrapuram Ponnusamy Radhakrishnan has been elected as the 15th Vice President of India. The 67-year-old leader is known for his soft-spoken and consensus-building style. Radhakrishnan is only the third leader from Tamil Nadu to hold the post, making his election a symbolic win for the BJP in a state where it faces political challenges. In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Congratulations to Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji on winning the 2025 Vice Presidential election. I am confident that he will be an outstanding VP, who will strengthen our Constitutional values and enhance Parliamentary discourse.”

In an official statement, opposition’s VP candidate B Sudershan Reddy said he accepts the mandate.

“Humbly accept outcome with abiding faith in democratic processes of our great republic. Though result not in my favour, ideological battle continues with ever greater vigour,” he said.

Returning Officer PC Mody said that a total of 767 votes were cast in Vice Presidential polls, 752 were valid and 15 were invalid.

“I declare CP Radhakrishnan elected to post of Vice President; result to be communicated to EC,” Returning Officer P C Mody said.

NDA’s CP Radhakrishnan has won the election of the Vice President of India by defeating INDIA bloc’s B Sudershan Reddy.

He was supported by 452 MPs while Retd Justice Reddy got 300 votes.

On the Vice-Presidential election, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav says, “Why is the election happening? Was Jagdeep Dhankhar really ill, or was he made to appear ill? Until the evening, he conducted the House proceedings. After that, where is he now? No one has any idea about the Vice President’s whereabouts. Neither has any health bulletin been issued, nor has anything else been shared. So, has he been put under house arrest? Or is the real reason being kept hidden? This certainly raises questions…”

The counting of votes for Vice Presidential election begins at Parliament house. The voting began at 10 AM and concluded at 5 PM.

The electoral college comprising members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha had a strength of 781.

The voting for the election to office of Vice President of India has concluded. The opposition has exuded confidence in winning the CP Radhakrishnan vs B Sudershan Reddy battle.

Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said on X, “The Opposition has stood united. ALL of its 315 MPs have turned up for voting. This is an unprecedented 100% turnout.”

“The sanctity of the parliamentary process has been eroded considerably. We want Parliament’s accountability over the executive to be intact. to send across this message, we have a candidate who is competent and able enough to defend the Indian constitution. ..We consider this battle as an ideological and political battle…” he added.

96 per cent of MPs have cast their ballot, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was the first to exercise his franchise in the Vice President election between NDA nominee C P Radhakrishnan and joint opposition candidate B Sudershan Reddy.

Sudarshan Reddy is one such candidate… INDIA bloc stands for the policies and principles…” he added.

BJP MP Bhagwat Karad said there are no chances of cross-voting in the Vice President elections. “We will win the Vice-President elections for sure,” he added.

NDA’s CP Radhakrishnan’s candidature in the vice president election now has more numbers in his favor as Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSCRP has decided to back him.
