A day following his expulsion from the Congress, former MP Sanjay Nirupam launched a scathing attack on the grand old party on Thursday, alleging “tremendous arrogance” within its leadership.
Addressing a press conference in Mumbai, Nirupam went on to assert that the Congress is a thing of the past with no future and that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) is a merger of three “sick units”, referring to the opposition alliance comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar).
“There is tremendous arrogance in the Congress leadership,” Nirupam alleged.
The former Mumbai Congress chief also claimed that those anticipating his political downfall would find themselves on shaky ground after June 4, the day of vote counting for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Earlier in the day, Nirupam took to his official handle on X, stating, “It appears that immediately after the party received my resignation letter last night, they decided to issue my expulsion. Good to see such promptness.”
On Wednesday, after being removed from the star campaigner list for the Lok Sabha polls, Nirupam was expelled from Congress for ‘indiscipline’ and ‘anti-party statements.’
Nirupam, who had his sights set on the Mumbai North West Lok Sabha constituency, expressed displeasure with the party’s decision to concede the seat to the Shiv Sena (UBT) for the upcoming parliamentary polls.
Calls for disciplinary action against Nirupam intensified after he criticised the Maharashtra Congress leadership for relinquishing Mumbai constituencies to the Uddhav Thackeray-led party during seat-sharing negotiations within the MVA for the Lok Sabha elections.
On Thursday, Nirupam clarified that his public statements were not aimed at the Congress but rather urged the party not to yield to the Shiv Sena (UBT). “Secularism doesn’t entail forsaking one’s own religion,” he emphasised.
Nirupam also claimed, “The Nehruvian secularism, which opposed religion and is under the Leftist influence, has expired.”
