Tension is riding high in West Bengal‘s Murshidabad district on Saturday as suspended MLA from the ruling party of Trinamool Congress (TMC), Humayun Kabir is set to lay the foundation stone of Babri Masjid, on the anniversary of its demolition in 1992. Security has been heightened across the city as hundreds gather ahead of laying foundation stone for Babri Masjid replica.
Ahead of the ceremony, Kabir addressed a crowd and said, “For the past 1,450 years, Muslims have been protecting the Qur’an. We will continue to protect the Qur’an for the rest of our lives. This is our foremost objective…”
He said that last year, he had announced of inaugurating the Babri Masjid in Beldanga, Murshidabad. “Today, on December 6, the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, we are here to inaugurate the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad once again…” he added.

A local carrying bricks said, “Our mosque will be built; we will build the house of Allah…”
He says, “All is well. Wait until it’s 12 noon; the reading of the Quran will begin then. After that, the foundation stone will be laid. I am receiving all cooperation from the administration. Murshidabad Police and State Police are all supporting me. I thank them.”
BJP slams Mamata, ‘why can’t she arrest her?’
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken the opportunity to target West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Party leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the “mischievous and communal criminal act” of the foreign invaders has now been destroyed, erased.
“…and even if Babur’s father, Umar Sheikh Mirza, were to rise from his grave to rebuild the Babri Masjid, it would be demolished, because people today reject the misdeeds of foreign invaders. He is adding fuel to the fire. Unfortunately, TMC has sunk to a point where they ask the thief to steal and the people to stay awake. Their leaders are trying to create unrest along communal lines,” he said.

Sharing a video on X, which showed people carrying bricks in Murshidabad, it said, “Dhori Machh Naa Chhui Paani. This proverb means, “to get something done without getting your hands dirty”. Mamata Banerjee has decided to polarise Muslims in West Bengal through her MLA Humayun Kabir, while distancing herself from him.”

The saffron party said the video shows Muslims carrying bricks to build “BABRI MASJID in Beldanga. This is a project started by now suspended @AitcOfficial MLA Humayun Kabir”.
“But why didn’t she suspend him when he threatened Hindus by saying that Muslims are 70% and Hindus are merely 30% in Murshidabad? Why the delay in suspending him? If Mamata was so concerned about maintaining “religious harmony”, why didn’t she suspend him earlier?” the party said.
