Telangana Election Result 2023 Highlights: Congress storms into BRS bastion with 64 seats, BRS reduced to 39

A delegation of Congress leaders on Sunday met Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan and staked claim to form the government in the state.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting with the Governor, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said a meeting of the newly-elected Congress MLAs would be held Tuesday morning.

“Today, under the leadership of our in-charge General Secretary (of Congress) Manikrao Thakre, the PCC president, former PCC president and all our AICC observers, we met the Governor, we claimed to form the government,” Shivakumar, who was one of the AICC observers appointed by AICC president to coordinate the meetings of Congress Legislature Party (CLP), told reporters.

“Tomorrow, we are meeting. We have a procedure in the Congress party. We will come out with the procedure and we will come back to you,” he said.

He said he cannot disclose what the Governor stated.

Shivakumar said the Congress has staked claim to form the government with the support of 65 members in the newly-elected House. (PTI)

Congress bags 64 seats, BRS follows

The AIMIM continued to hold sway over its traditional bastion of the Old City of Hyderabad as it retained the seven seats held by it in the outgoing Telangana Assembly on Sunday.

AIMIM candidates won from seven out of the nine seats it contested in the Telangana assembly election, while supporting the BRS elsewhere. It lost in Rajendranagar and Jubilee Hills.

The party, which has held on to these seven segments in the outgoing assembly, has been winning from these seats since 2009.

The Election Commission ordered the suspension of Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) Anjani Kumar for violation of the model code of conduct as the counting of votes was underway in the state The DGP, along with state police nodal officer Sanjay Jain and nodal officer (expenditure) Mahesh Bhagwat, met Anumula Revanth Reddy, the state Congress president and a candidate, with a bouquet of flowers at his residence in Hyderabad amid the counting of votes.

The DGP opting to meet a contesting candidate out of the total of 2,290 and the star campaigner of one political party out of 16 political parties in the fray was a clear indication of mala fide intention of seeking favour, sources said. As of 11.02 AM, Congress is leading in 57 seats and BRS in 32 seats, according to Election Commission of India (ECI) data.

Here’s where the data stands as of 10.30 AM for Telangana Assembly elections.

The Congress was leading in 51 out of the 119 seats in Telangana. The initial trends showed the national party was racing ahead of the incumbent BRS, which was leading in 29 seats. At the start of counting at 8 am, postal ballots were first taken up.
BJP was ahead in 6 seats.
