Tamil Nadu Budget 2025-26 Highlights: Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu is presenting the DMK government’s fifth state Budget since coming to power in 2021 under Chief Minister MK Stalin. The Budget speech began at 9:30 am at the Assembly Hall of the historic Fort St. George complex in Chennai.
This is Thennarasu’s second Budget after taking over as Finance Minister in May 2023 during a Cabinet reshuffle. He presented his maiden Budget last February.
Today’s Budget presentation comes against the backdrop of a heated political exchange between the DMK-led state government and the BJP-ruled Centre, adding a charged atmosphere to the proceedings.
Later in the day, the Business Advisory Committee will meet to finalise the duration of the Budget session, expected to begin on March 17. On March 15, Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam will present the Agriculture Budget, and on March 21, the government will table advance demands for grants for 2025-26 and the final supplementary demands for grants for 2024-25.
